- Washington Recreation and Park Association Best Park Spotlight Award
The Macadam Winter Garden received a Spotlight Award from the Washington Recreation and Park Association in the category of Best Park. The park is comprised of a series of outdoor rooms interconnected with a gravel path system. Each room has a distinct thematic character focused on plants with particular winter interest and characteristics like branching patterns, leaves, flowers, textures, fragrance, needles, and color. Elements of Spring, Summer, and Fall are also present to provide a four-season strolling garden. Special attention was given to the transition from the developed park to the adjacent, heavily vegetated wetland by adding a room containing shrubs and small trees native to the northwest and its unique wetland environment.
