Parkside Park Renovation

In 2017, the City of Des Moines embarked on a new vision for parks and recreation in the city - "to help people live a better quality of life and make Des Moines a place where many people choose to live their lives". We also believe that all community members should have access to parks, trails, and park programming and we were grateful for the opportunity to partner with the City and help them realize their vision. Blueline led the redesign and renovation of Parkside Park, a beautiful but underutilized park situated in a south Des Moines neighborhood. Improvements included an extensive paved trail system that provides ADA accessibility to all portions of the park, a multi-use paved sport court, fitness equipment, picnic tables, benches and trash containers, new fencing, drainage improvements, and removal/replacement of areas of arsenic contaminated soils. A new park entrance was also created through a heavily wooded side of the site, and coordination with the grant funding agency was provided by our team throughout design and construction.
