Assistant Planner

Job Description

The Assistant Planner works with the Project Manager, Professional Engineers, Designers, and Drafters on private residential/commercial development projects and public municipal projects.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The essential duties and responsibilities for this position may include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Work with Project Managers/Engineers to conduct Feasibility Study research including evaluating existing conditions and code research to confirm site plan assumptions (use/dimensions/setbacks).
  • Ability to review, comprehend, and write code/ordinances.
  • Anticipate and prepare for the Land Entitlement process, including pre-application, site plan, final engineering, and as-builts.
  • Prepare applications, checklists, public notices, and legal ads.
  • Coordinate with clients, subconsultants, water and sewer utilities, dry/franchise utilities, and the Postmaster.
  • Prepare supplementary permits and applications, including but not limited to, SEPA, NPDES, Water and Sewer Availability Certificates, and FPA.
  • Prepare documents for easement recording, bonding, and final recording.
  • Coordinate submittal appointments and materials.
  • Track and report project status and milestones.
  • Assist Engineers and Engineering Designers and Drafters with code research and coordination of engineering plan standards and submittal requirements.
  • Prepare records requests from various jurisdictions and utility providers.
  • Communicate with clients, subconsultants, jurisdictions, and other project team members.
  • Provide general project and administrative support, including reproduction and assembly of reports, creation of transmittals, and packaging submittal items.
  • Provide document management including scanning, downloading, filing and archiving of documents.
  • Assist Principals and Project Managers with preparations of scopes of work, proposals, statement of qualification packages, marketing materials, and public works materials.
  • Assist Principals and Project Managers with cultivating and developing potential business prospects and support ongoing client relationships in order to generate future business opportunities.
  • Identify and become a member of community and professional industry related organizations.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
  • Bachelor’s Degree with an emphasis in planning, landscape architecture, or other related field

COMPUTER SKILLS

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and Project.
  • Ability to operate basic office equipment such as telephones, computers, fax, and copy machines.
  • Experience with Adobe Acrobat Standard or Professional is preferable.
ANALYTICAL SKILLS

Strong analytical skills with the ability to present data in an accessible and well-organized manner to enable firm management to make informed decisions. Ability to solve practical problems and present solutions in situations where only limited standardization exists.

WRITING/COMPREHENSION

Ability to read and comprehend instructions, correspondence, memos, and jurisdictional regulations and codes. Ability to write correspondence, applications, memos, and documents. Ability to effectively report project status information to Project Managers, Project Engineers, clients, and other employees of the organization. Ability to respond to inquiries from management, employees, and clients.
